Pinto Beans

Closely related to the kidney bean, Pinto Beans are distinctive because of their mottled beige and brown color. They have an earthy flavor and powdery texture. They are most often used in Tex-Mex cooking, turning brown when cooked.

Cooking Time: 1.5 – 2 hours

Black Beans

Easy to recognize, these medium-sized, black-skinned ovals have a sweet flavor with just a hint of mushroom. They are also called turtle beans and often used in Mexican, Caribbean, and Latin American dishes.

Cooking Time: 1 – 1.5 hours

Navy Beans

These small, white, oval shaped beans are sometimes referred to as “pea beans”. They have a mild flavor, with a powdery texture and are used in a variety of dishes. They are also a heart healthy choice due to their high levels of folate and magnesium.

Cooking Time: 1.5 – 2 hours
